New Orleans

The Food in New Orleans is an incredible representation of the city itself. A melting pot of cultures and cuisines that have blended seamlessly together and created unique dining experiences that make New Orleans the epic food destination that it is.

New York is the city that never sleeps, New Orleans is the city that rebirths every day. Each day the city morphs from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde. Go out in the morning to birds chirping, jazz playing, beignets frying, children playing as the sanitary aroma of fresh clean sheets wafts through the air. As the daytime double cutches into night, the city takes on more abrasive stance in the best way possible. The smooth jazz from the daytime hours begins to take on a more raspy tone as happy hour turns into a party with complete abandon that goes into the wee hours of the morning. By daybreak the city presents itself as if nothing ever happened.

New York is the city that never sleeps, New Orleans is the city that rebirths every day. Each day the city morphs from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde. I would go out in the morning to birds chirping, jazz playing, beignets frying, children playing as the sanitary aroma of fresh clean sheets wafted through the air. As the daytime double clutched into night, the city took on more abrasive stance in the best way possible. The smooth jazz from the daytime hours began to turn a more raspy tone as happy hour turned into a party with complete abandon that went into the wee hours of the morning. CAFE beignet

We skipped Café Du Monde and went right to Cafe Beignet, the lines were smaller and the beignet’s were just as good (we had all had Café Du Monde on our prior trips). They have several locations, each with a different vibe. The first one had a garden cafe feel and the one up on Bourbon Street had live music all day… starting when they first opened in the morning. This was the perfect way to start the day… it was way too hard not to eat beignetes every day.

Lynn and I were honored to be given the grand tour of the New Orleans Legacy restaurant Antoine’s by the guy who knows everything there is to know about the history of the restaurant, the maintenance man. The restaurant hadn’t opened yet and we were the only people in there. He showed us every glorious room and fed us historical tidbits along the way!

Central Grocery

We’re a couple days into our New Orleans trip, it’s hot, humid and yes we stood in line waiting for Central Grocery to open. The front of the shop is a market, selling sauces, seeds, touristic items and then there’s the tall counter with the quick line, everyone reading the menu sign and trying to figure out what to get. We knew what we wanted before we got there… everyone’s got to try them as they are “Home of the world Famous Muffuletta Sandwich”. UPDATE: a week after we got home, my brother called and told us they had Central Grocery air ship muffletta’s to celebrate my dad’s birthday.,. I was surprised how reasonable the airship costs were.
